Groups of young people from Hetton Summer school attended workshop based around the North & South exhibition, in particular Nicola Koller's animation 'This Sceptred Isle' and Matthew Butcher's 'Flood House'.
The groups worked with artist Louise Bradley to imagine an England of the future and the impacts of climate, technology and social changes on both town and country. As a result of this exploration the young people create roadsigns of the future. One of the most popular themes for the signs and very appropriate at the time was the flooding of England. The groups responses to an England of the future under water included floating or flying cars. Another particular interest was the increase of speed limits on roads for all types of vehicles including bicycles and wheelchairs!
