Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art and National Glass Centre were successful in their recent joint application to become part of Arts Council England's National Portfolio of funded venues. Over the next three years the two organisations will receive £1.123 million, ensuring that they can continue to deliver an exciting and innovative programme of visual arts in Sunderland.
The Arts Council England decisions, announced on the 28 March, were made in the context of their 10-year strategic framework, 'Achieving Great Art for Everyone'. The inclusion of both organisations in the National Portfolio funding programme and the fact that both organisations have been awarded higher funding packages than those previously is due to their strengths in generating unique exhibitions and touring projects nationally and internationally, as well as in working with artists to create and display new work.
