Watch This Space 6

Watch This Space is a programme managed by Engage, The National Association for Gallery Education.

It is a funded professional development programme for galleries, teachers and gallery educators, to enable them to gain first hand experience of each other's work, in order to initiate, build and sustain relationships.

Watch this Space places teachers from non-visiting schools in galleries.  By getting to know the gallery, its education programme and the opportunities for partnership working, the teachers and galleries are supported to organise student visits and build long term relationships.

Between September and December 2009, the NGCA hosted placements for teachers from Sandhill View School and Houghton Kepier Sports College.

During the placements the teachers brought pupils studying for the Level 2 Creative and Media Diploma and GCSE Art & Design to engage with the NGCA.  The pupils visited the exhibitions, met gallery staff  and worked with professional artists.

The students from Sandhill View School created two DVDs which explore what the NGCA is, where it is located and what it offers the public.  The students are now designing education packs to accompany the DVDs.

The students from Houghton Kepier School worked with graphic designer Tommy Anderson to produce lo-tec graphic compositions using lettraset, stencils and printing blocks.   They will continue to use text in their GCSE coursework and will produce an exhibition of work to be shown at the NGCA in October 2010.
