LifeLike - the AV Festival 2006

Andy Gracie & Brian Lee Yung
'autoinducer Ph-1(cross cultural chemistry)'

Exhibition dates: 8 March - 13 April 2006
Special Preview: Tuesday 7 March

Commissioned by LifeLike - the AV Festival 2006 'autoinducer Ph-1(cross cultural chemistry)' is based around the relationships between three elements - a cyanobacteria, a water fern, and rice. It places an organic farming process into a new context, as an automated system governed by an artificialintelligence based bacterial colony, to look at the merging of the technological and the biological.

LifeLike - the AV Festival 2006 is the UK's largest international festival of digital arts and music, electronic art, games and new media and will be taking place in venues across Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough from 2 - 12 March.

As part of the AV Festival 2006 there are four consecutive openings around Sunderland on Tuesday 7 March:
5:15pm 'The Autotelematic Spider Bots' by Kenneth Rinaldo at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens; 6:00pm Andy Gracie & Brian Lee Yung Rowe 'autoinducer Ph-1 (cross cultural chemistry)' at Northern Gallery for Comtemporary Art;
7:00pm 'Swell' by Anthony McCall at the Reg Vardy Gallery;
8:00pm Reception for the outdoor projection, 'Wonderland' by  Claire Davies at the National Glass Centre;
9:00 pm Audiovisual performance & party, Undercurrent
by D-Fuse.

Guests can travel to each opening reception via the
AV bus and can reserve a place on a bus travelling from the National Glass Centre back to Newcastle,
at the conclusion of the night. Please reserve your place by phoning  0191 232 8289
